About Speckled Dog Studio

Becky Johnston, Speckled Dog StudioHi, I’m Becky, a creative educator and founder of Speckled Dog Studios.

I’m passionate about nurturing creativity, joy, and well-being through playful art and craft experiences.

With 17 years of experience as a Primary School Teacher, I later specialised in supporting children with additional learning needs, ensuring every child has the opportunity to flourish and express themselves creatively.

I’m also a home educating parent, with all the unique challenges, rewards and learning experiences that entails.

I have always loved teaching in imaginative, hands-on ways, and at Speckled Dog Studios, I’m dedicated to creating a welcoming, inspiring environment where children can explore safely and joyfully.

Bringing together my love for teaching, crafting and pottery is a dream come true, and I’m excited to share this with the children and families who join us at Speckled Dog Studios.

I can’t wait to welcome you and your little creatives soon!

Frequently Asked Questions

What age groups are your sessions designed for?

Our classes and workshops are suitable for a range of ages, starting from 2 upwards. Check out the individual class and workshop pages for more guidance on suitable ages for each session.

Do children need to be creative to take part?

Our approach to art and creativity is process led and all about having fun. Anyone can take part and have a fantastic time.

Do parents stay during the sessions or drop children off?

Mini-makers, monthly workshops, and Pottery Painting are for the whole family to enjoy. Make & Create and Clay Club are drop-off only.

How many children are in each group?

Our groups are deliberately kept small in size with a high adult to child ratio so each child receives personal attention and creative support.

Who leads classes and workshops?

Our class leader is Becky, an experienced primary school teacher and creative soul. Becky is Enhanced DBS checked and holds £1m of public liability insurance.

What should my child wear or bring?

Aprons will be provided, but in our experience don’t always cover every spill! Please wear clothing that you don’t mind getting a little messy.

Are all materials provided?

Yes!

Are your sessions suitable for children with additional needs?

We would love to work with you to make sure we can accommodate your child’s individual needs. Our sessions are naturally child-led, inclusive, and have a high adult to child ratio.

However, please drop me a line to discuss your child’s individual needs and how we can make sure these are met.

Where are you located and is there parking nearby?

We’re at Smithbrook Kilns on the Horsham Road (A281) just outside of Cranleigh, and there’s oodles of free parking on site.
